Biography:
CRICHTON, Thomas (1761-1844: PP)
He was born at Paisley, the son of John Crichton and Sarah (Lammon or Lamont) Crichton. He taught in a school of his own until 1791 when he was appointed by the Paisley Managers of the Poor to be schoolmaster. He also served as Session-Clerk to the parish and Governor to the town’s hospital for the poor. His The Library (1804) was inspired by the establishment of Paisley’s first library in 1802. His other publications include a biography of Alexander Wilson (1818), articles in the Scots Magazine and other periodicals, and biographical sketches of some Paisley clergymen.
