Biography:
CRAFTS, William (1787-1826: WBIS)
He was born in Charleston SC to William Crafts, a wealthy merchant, and Margaret (Tébout) Crafts. He graduated from Harvard in 1805, trained as a lawyer, and was called to the bar in South Carolina in 1809. His great success was as an orator--in court, on public occasions, and in the state government, where he served as a Federalist. He was elected to the state house of representatives in 1810 and 1814, and spent the last six years of his life in the state senate. About 1823 he married his cousin Caroline Homes (or Holmes) of Boston, but his health deteriorated and he died at 39 in Lebanon Springs NY. (ANB 28 May 2018) HJ
