Biography:
COX, Henry Hamilton (1769?-1821: WBIS)
Born in Ireland, son of Joshua and Mary (Cox) Hamilton, he took his mother's name as a condition of inheritance in 1784. He married Letitia Elinor Hutcheson of Dublin and had a large family. But the Irish estate was burdened with debt. Cox served for a time in the British Army in India and then, about 1799, left for America until such time as the encumbrance on the estate should be cleared. In Pennsylvania, Cox became a Quaker and occasionally preached, but after returning to Ireland in 1817, he reverted to Anglicanism. (DAB) HJ
