Biography:

CORNYN, Dominick (d 1826)

There are few records of Cornyn. His poem, published in the year of the uprising against British rule in Ireland, is dedicated to "the Societies of United Irishmen, of Philadelphia and New York" and is dated from Reading PA. From a death notice that describes him as an "active politician" in Cumberland County PA in his later years, it appears that he was a native of Co. Leitrim in Ireland who had emigrated to Pennsylvania and joined the US Infantry. Promoted from second to first lieutenant in 1813, he rose to the rank of Captain. He seems to have married: there are death records for two infant children of this surname buried in Westmoreland County PA in 1820 and 1824.
