COMSTOCK, William (fl 1827-75)
Born about 1804 to Nathan and Elizabeth (Emmet) Comstock, Quakers, in Nantucket. The family moved to New York City about 1809. His elder brother Samuel (1802-1824) was a notorious mutineer who led a massacre of all the officers on the whaler Globe in 1824 and was shot by fellow crewmen in his turn: William published a biography of him in 1840.
