Biography:

COLVILL, Robert (1732-88: findmypast.co.uk)

He was born in Edinburgh to Walter Colvill (possibly a miller) and his wife Elizabeth Douglas; they had married in Edinburgh on 30 May 1731. Robert was baptised on 30 Apr. 1732 and he was educated at the James Mundall school in Edinburgh.  He served as minister at Dysart, Fife, from 1758-85, and married Marjory (May) Glas on 2 Sept. 1762. He was an assiduous contributor to Walter Ruddiman’s Weekly Magazine, or Edinburgh Amusement. He died at Edinburgh on 23 Jan. 1788. (LSP, vol. 6; Rev. W.
