Author: Collins, Edward

Biography:

COLLINS, Edward (fl 1825)

This author has not been traced. The preface to his book states that he had lived in the Chepstow, Monmouthshire, area of Wales for some time, and the subscription list of mainly local names indicates a connection to Leominster in Herefordshire. Possibly he was the Edward Collins, son of Edward and Anne Collins, who was baptised in Leominster on 7 Feb. 1787. Tintern Abbey is dedicated to Nathaniel Wells with gratitude for favours “already granted.” Nathaniel Wells of Piercefield was a prominent figure in Monmouthshire society; he had inherited a fortune from his father, a plantation owner in St. Kitts. Wells subscribed for 12 copies. The printer, Thomas Major, had premises near the churchyard in Chepstow from 1820 to 1830.  (findmypast.co.uk 14 Mar. 2024; LBS; BBTI) SR
