Author: Cole, John
Biography:
COLE, John (fl 1779-1808)
The title page of The American War designates the author as “late of Plymouth, but now of Beverley, in Yorkshire.” No public records that can be linked to this author with any certainty have been located. The preface to The American War states that the book is his “first performance” and he hopes that his readers “will not impede, but rather expand the wings of his soaring genius.” Cole is known to have published two other poems, both of which are too short to be included in this database: Poetical description of the Signal Defeat, of the Danish Fleet, April 2, 1801 (1801, 8 pages) and Ode on the War in the Peninsula (1808? 6 pages).
