Her parents were Major Thomas Cole, of Callan, Co. Kilkenny, and his wife Margaret Cockburn. Her brother, Lieutenant Henry Cole, died in Madagascar, probably from malaria, while he was serving with his regiment in Mauritius where his uncle, Lowry Cole, was the governor. Days Gone By, a tribute to her brother, is a compilation of letters, anecdotes, and verse written with her sister Matilda Cole (q.v.). Another brother was John William Cole, an author who, among other works, wrote dramatic adaptations of Walter Scott’s (q.v.) novels. (findmypast.co.uk 22 Jan. 2021; ODNB [Lowry Cole] 21 Feb. 2025) SR
