COATES, James (fl. 1805-13)
The title page of A Description of Burlington Key identifies him as a labourer. The preface to the second edition, published as Bridlington-Quay, refers to the author’s “lowly situation in life, his delicate health, his attention to a numerous family.” Coates also published A Pathetic Elegy on the Death of W. Brown and C. Choddick, who Suffered on the Tempestuous Night of Oct 30th, 1807, while Engaged in the Herring-fishery (York, 1808) but at 8 pages it is not included in this database.
