Author: Clapp, Samuel Capen
Biography:
CLAPP, Samuel Capen (1810-31: Stockbridge)
He was the son of Samuel and Anna (Capen) Clapp, born in Boston on 1 Apr. 1810. He took pleasure in music and his poems were written generally with favourite tunes in mind. At the age of 15, he was apprenticed to a printer. It is likely that this was in a family firm, since the memorial volume of his poems was published by Clapp and Hull in Boston. He died of consumption (TB) on 28 Oct. 1831. (John Calvin Stockbridge, The Anthony Memorial: A Catalogue of the Harris Collection of American Poetry [1886] p. 57; ancestry.com 12 Aug. 2025) HJ
