Biography:
CHANDLER, David (c 1742-86: S&W)
The title-page to his Miscellaneous Works (1814) identifies him as a resident of Elizabethtown (or Elizabeth) NJ. This is plainly a posthumous collection of poems that were written mostly in the early 1780s, but it contains no prefatory information about the author or the editor. Public records, however, identify him as the son of Samuel and Mary (Bonnell) Chandler, born in Elizabeth on 13 May 1742. On 12 Mar. 1765 he married Sarah Thompson (1748-1830); the couple had ten children of whom at least two died in infancy. His occupation is not recorded but he was a deacon in his church. He died at Elizabeth on 3 Jan. 1786 and is buried in the Presbyterian Churchyard in Elizabeth. (ancestry.com 1 Mar. 2018, 29 July 2025) HJ
