Biography:
CAREY, David (1781-1824: ancestry.co.uk)
He was born at Arbroath where he was baptised on 15 June 1781, the son of David Carey and Janet (Steven) Carey. He briefly worked for Archibald Constable’s publishing house, began writing for the periodical press, and was editor of the Inverness Journal and Northern Advertiser (1807-12). His other publications include five novels: Secrets of the Castle (1806), Lochiel (1820), A Legend of Argyle (1821), Life in Paris (1822), and Frederick Morland (1824). He may have been the David Carey who married Elizabeth Cant in Arbroath on 23 Nov. 1822. Suffering from consumption, he travelled to Paris for his health but he died at Arbroath on his return.
