BURDON, George (1769-1834: ancestry.co.uk, GM)
The son of John Burdon, a prominent bookseller in Winchester, and his wife Frances, he was privately baptised on 3 Feb. 1769. He was educated at Winchester College and matriculated at Queen's College, Oxford, on 15 Mar. 1788. He earned his BA (1791) and MA (1803) from Trinity College, Oxford, and was ordained deacon in 1791 and priest in 1793. He was a curate at Chilcomb, Winchester, and a naval chaplain before becoming rector of the church at Falstone, Northumberland, in 1815. According to GM, he was presented to the church by the governors of Greenwich Hospital. On 28 Dec. 1815 he married Maria Susan Locke (b 1793) in Farnham, Surrey, where her father was a clergyman; it is not known if they had children. He died at Ramsgate on 22 July 1834.
