BUFFUM, Gaskill (1785-1819: ancestry.com)
He was the eldest son of Caleb Buffum of Richmond NH (1759-1803), born to Buffum and his first wife Tamer Gaskill whom he had married in Richmond on 15 Aug. 1784 but who must have died before 25 Mar. 1787 when he married (presumably her sister) Hannah Gaskill and went on to have six more children. On 18 Jun. 1809 Gaskill Buffum married Polly Giles in New Salem MA; the couple settled in Smithfield, just outside Providence RI, where he was described as a "Trader" when he declared insolvency in 1812. His pamphlet The Surrejoinder was advertised in Mar. 1819 but he died on 29 Jun. that year, of unknown causes.
