Biography:

BUCHAN, David Home (1790-1822: ancestry.co.uk)

He was born at Edinburgh to Thomas Buchan and Jean (Home) Buchan, but little else is known of him. His book is dedicated to the Duke of Wellington and a note at the end defends the poem against charges of being borrowed from Walter Scott’s (q.v.) The Field of Waterloo (published 23 Oct 1815) on the grounds of being written first. A newspaper notice of his death on 19 Sept. 1822 states that he died at Bruntsfield, Edinburgh, "after a long and severe illness." (ancestry.co.uk: 25 Apr 2018; Perthshire Courier 8 Oct. 1822) SR
