Biography:
BRYSON, William Alexander (c. 1786-1814: O’Donoghue)
He was one of six children born to the Rev. William Bryson, radical theologian and Presbyterian minister of the Old Meeting House in Antrim, and his wife, the former Miss Maclaine. He was probably born at Antrim where his father had commenced preaching in 1764. By 1809 he was a scholar at Trinity College Dublin. O’Donoghue says that he was unsuccessful in a bid for a fellowship at Trinity. On 13 Jan. 1814 he committed suicide by drowning in Six Mile Water, Antrim. He was buried beside the Old Meeting House where a gravestone commemorates him and four of his siblings. The likely year of his birth is taken from information on this gravestone.
