Author: Bruce, David
Biography:
BRUCE, David (1760-1830: Hollis)
Born in Scotland, he arrived in Maryland in 1784--either from Scotland directly or from Scotland by way of Ireland--and eventually settled in Burgettstown PA, where he kept a store, in 1795. Before they were collected in a volume, most of his verses appeared in a local newspaper under the nom de plume of "The Scots-Irishman." Biographical accounts of him are based largely on inference from the poems.
