Author: Brown, John

Biography:

BROWN, John (fl 1803)

Although he designated himself “Dr,” the authority for this is not evident. His book The Reform of Manners has not been traced. Albanus is addressed to “John McMurdo, Esq., of Roberthill.” There is a manuscript note in one copy stating that the author was imprisoned for ten weeks for giving offence with the book. (Notes and Queries, 5th Ser., vol. 4 [1875], p. 427)
