BROWN, Hugh Horatio (c. 1800-66: ancestry.co.uk)
He was one of two children of Robert Dunmore Craufurd Brown (q.v.) and Elizabeth Kerr but no birth record has been located and his birth year, estimated from census records, could have been as early as 1795. He became an advocate and justice of the peace. From his father he inherited Newhall, Carlops, Peebleshire, and he was designated “of Newhall.” On 12 Apr. 1853 at St. Cuthbert's, Edinburgh, he married Gulielmina Ranaldson Macdonell; they had two sons.
