BROSTER, Joseph (1764-1842: ancestry.co.uk)

The BL copy has a manuscript note on the title page identifying the author as Joseph Broster of Rainow. (Rainow is a suburb of Macclesfield, Cheshire.) He was almost certainly the Joseph Broster who was born in Bosley, Cheshire, on 31 Dec. 1764; his parents, James and Ruth Broster, were Quakers and farmers. He became a cotton manufacturer. On 2 Mar. 1792 he married Mary Dex in Staffordshire; they had at least two children—a son and a daughter—whose names are recorded on Joseph Broster’s tombstone. One son, Joseph Dex Broster, lived only from Nov. 1799 to Dec. 1799. Mary died on 15 July 1813 and on 1 Dec. 1814 he married Ann Shipley; they had a son and a daughter. He died on 28 Aug. 1842 and was buried in the cemetery at Holy Trinity church in Rainow. (ancestry.co.uk 18 Sept. 2023) SR
