Biography:

BRANCH, Amaziah (1741-c 1818: ancestry.com)

The son of John Branch of Preston CT, he married Sarah Huntington of Norwich CT in 1763. He may have been farming in Vermont at the time of her death in 1784 or a little later: his poem about her was published in Bennington VT. In 1794 he settled in Onondaga County NY. There are records of his having been the first schoolteacher in Sherman Hollow and at Lafayette Village, of his owning a farm in the district in 1799, and of his having served as a lay minister among the Congregationalists before they built a church (in 1804). He is said to have died of nightmare. (ancestry.com 26 Dec. 2017; J. V. H. Clark, Onondaga, or Reminiscences . . .
