Author: Bourke, Hannah Maria

Biography:

BOURKE, Hannah Maria (fl 1830)

Little is known for certain. She may have been the Hannah Maria Bourke who died at Killala, Co. Mayo, in 1887. If so, likely her parents were Palmer Bourke (d 1848), a justice of the peace for Killala, and his wife Hannah Kirkwood; they married in 1789. Her book is dedicated to Mrs. Elizabeth Palmer of Ormly Park, Surrey; the Palmer family also lived in Mayo. Elizabeth Palmer’s husband was Joseph Budworth (q.v.); he took the name Palmer in 1812. Genealogical and newspaper records show links among the Bourke, Palmer, and Kirkwood families although it is not clear exactly how they were related.
