Author: Bolton, Aquila M.
Biography:
BOLTON, Aquila M. (fl 1807-46)
There is some confusion in the records about the spelling of his first and second names, with variants Aquilla and Massie or Massey, but his title-pages use Aquila and one of them identifies him in 1807 as a bookseller in Wheeling, Ohio County, Virginia (now WV). He was a Shaker and a controversialist, his last poetical publication being Some Lines in Verse about Shakers (1846). He married Elizabeth Yarnell in 1811. There is a recent biography, not seen: Sandra A. Soule, Independency of Mind: Aquila Massie Bolton, Poetry, Shakerism, and Controversy (2010). (ancestry.com 15 Dec. 2017) HJ
