pseudonym Sir Anthony Avalanche
A single title, Fashion's Analysis (NYC 1807) by the obviously pseudonymous Sir Anthony Avalanche, is attributed to "Blauvelt" or "Alex. Blauvelt"--the latter on the basis of a note in MS in one copy--in some library catalogues. Abraham Blauvelt was a busy printer in New Brunswick NJ, active between 1789 and 1811. An "Augustus Blauvelt" is recorded as having published a prose work, The Kingdom of Satan, in New York in 1808 but that must be a catalogue error: the Preface is dated 1868 and the author was a clergyman born in 1832. No record has been found of an Alexander Blauvelt. All of which is to say that the attribution is tenuous at best, but that if Blauvelt was the author, his first name was probably Abraham. HJ
