Biography:
BLAIR, Robert (1699-1746: ODNB)
Blair is a prior author whose writings were all first published during his lifetime; his presence in this database is owing to the inclusion of his verse in collections featuring later authors. His major poem, The Grave, was published in 1743 and made him famous in his lifetime and beyond. He was the eldest son of the Rev. David Blair and his wife Euphemia Nisbet and was born in Edinburgh. He was ordained as the minister at Athelstaneford, Haddingtonshire, in 1731. On 11 Apr. 1738 he married Isabella Law; they had five sons and one daughter. He died of a fever on 4 Feb. 1746 and was buried at Athelstaneford. (ODNB 10 June 2023) SR
