Biography:
BENSON, Richard (b c. 1785-1852: ancestry.co.uk)
He was likely born in Ireland but no records have been located. His parents were Thomas Benson, of the 4th (Irish) Regiment of Horse, and his wife Jane Ogle. Benson joined the Royal Navy but by 1824 he was living at Fathom Park, Newry. On 1 Apr. 1826 in Liverpool he married Agnes Gray, daughter of a chaplain in the EIC; they had seven children. He died on 29 Oct. 1852 at Fathom Park, survived by his wife. Curiously the BL catalogue (accessed 26 Dec. 2024) gives the author's name as Ramsey Benson although the title page clearly has Richard Benson.
