Biography:

BELLEW, Robert (c. 1766-1811: findmypast.co.uk)

A descendant of an ancient Irish family, he was the son and heir of Patrick Bellew of Ballindiness, Castle Martyr, Cork, and his wife Sarah Pratt. He was born in Ireland in about 1766 but no birth record has been located. He entered Trinity College Dublin on 5 July 1783, aged seventeen, and earned his BA in 1788. He was called to the Irish bar at Easter 1791. He moved to London where on 23 June 1792 he married Sophia Fowke by license at St. Pancras. They had four sons and three daughters. At the time of his death in Apr. 1811 he was living in Hertford, Hertfordshire. His will was written on 4 Apr. 1811 and proved on 22 Apr.; it left everything to his wife, including lands in Ballindiness, to provide for his children. He also published Hibernica Trinoda Necessitas (1803) and Thoughts and Suggestions on the Means…Towards Improving the Conditions of the Irish Peasantry (1808).
