Biography:
BEAMAN, Charles Cotesworth (1799-1883: ancestry.com)
The son of a Boston merchant, Ephraim Beaman, and his wife Rebecca Greenleaf, he was born in Boston on 12 Aug. 1799. He went into business like his father but at the age of 33 made a change of career and enrolled at Andover Theological Seminary, which had been founded at Andover MA in 1807. He graduated in 1837 and became a Congregationalist minister, posted to various places in Maine and Massachusetts before settling at Salem. (Heitman lists him as an army chaplain 1838-40.) On 10 July 1839 he married Mary Ann Stacy (1816-75), with whom he had at least four children. He retired to Boston in 1875 and died there on 4 July 1883.
