Biography:
BEACH, Samuel Bellamy (1784?-1866: Dexter)
The son of Ashbel and Anna Bellamy Beach of Litchfield CT, he gave the Salutatory Oration on graduation from Yale in 1805. He was by turns a journalist, a lawyer (District Attorney of Oswego County in 1821), a schoolteacher, and a clerk in the Post Office Department in Washington DC. He married twice; with his second wife, Martha M. Bates, he had 14 children, five of whom died in infancy. He was a longtime resident of Oneonta NY, where he died in July 1866.
