Bayley, Peter (1778-1823: ODNB)
pseudonym Giorgione di Castel Chiuso
Son of Peter Bayley, a solicitor, and Sarah Tompkinson Bayley. Educated at Rugby and Oxford, he was admitted to Lincoln's Inn but left the law to pursue literary interests. In 1807 he married his cousin Mary Wright; they had three children. His play Orestes in Argos, still in manuscript at his death, was performed at Covent Garden and published posthumously, as was the final, complete version of Idwal, his long Spenserian poem on a Welsh theme.
