BAYLEY, Frederick William Naylor (1808-52: ODNB)

Although he was born in Ireland and spent most of his life in England as a journalist and editor, Bayley went to Barbados in 1825 with his father, who was in the army. In addition to the two books of verse listed, he was the author of Four Years' Residence in the West Indies (1830), wrote books for children, edited the works of Mrs. Sigourney (q.v.), started up a penny weekly, and in 1842 became the first editor of The London Illustrated News.
