Biography:
BARRACLOUGH, William (fl 1810-40)
Nothing has been discovered about his early days. Census records show that he was resident in Fairfield County CT between 1810 and 1840. He married Polly Curtis on 1 Apr. 1810 in a Congregational church at New Canaan CT. They had at least one daughter, Mary, who married there in 1834. In a letter written to Thomas Jefferson from New Canaan on May 1, 1820, seeking an endorsement for his book in the hope of better sales, he describes himself as "a Poor Man, a Journeyman Mechanic, with a Family in very difficult circumstances."
