Biography:
BARON, Robert Webb Stone (1794-1853: ancestry.co.uk)
He was born on 24 Apr. 1794 and baptised on 6 June at Norley Street Presbyterian, Plymouth, the son of Thomas Baron and his wife Elizabeth Anne (maiden name unkown). Nothing is known of his education. He wrote knowledgeably in prose on local and municipal affairs but his early poem listed here is tedious as is his reworking of the subject twenty years later inMayors and Mayoralties; or, The Annals of the Borough of Plymouth (1846). He termed himself the “Poet Corporate” despite the poor quality and somewhat abusive nature of his verse. He died in Plymouth and was buried on 6 Apr. 1853, at St. Andrew’s.
