Biography:

BARNES, Lucy (1780-1809: ancestry.com)

Lucy Barns or Barnes was born at Jaffrey NH on 6 Mar. 1780, the eldest daughter of the Rev. Thomas Barnes and his wife Mary Fletcher, who eventually had two more daughters and one son, Reuben, who would edit his sister’s poems for posthumous publication. In 1799 the family moved to Poland ME, where she died of consumption (TB) on 27 Aug. (some sources give 25 Aug.) 1809, and was buried in the Empire cemetery. A single grave and monument now include her remains along with those of her parents and brother. Griffith mentions a second edition of The Female Christian published at Auburn ME in 1813, but that remains to be confirmed.
