BALL, Jonathan (1755-1829: ancestry.com)
The son of Sarah (Brooks) and John Ball, he was born in Concord MA on 7 Jan. 1755. In 1775 he enlisted as a private in the US army and served during the Revolutionary War. On 12 Sept. 1780 he married Abihail Childs at Concord. They had four children who were all born in Massachusetts but at some point after 1799 the family moved to Milford NH, where Ball died on 18 Feb. 1829 and was buried in the Elm Street cemetery. It is not clear how long he stayed in the army, but his widow continued to receive his pension until her death in 1847. His son of the same name was also a poet, author of the broadsheet Jonathan Ball's Friendly Exortation [sic] in 1824. (ancestry.com 4 July 2025) HJ
