Biography:

BAKER, William Deal (1812-76: ancestry.com)

pseudonym Hyton Hosmot

A Philadelphia lawyer who would publish an account of local election laws in 1852. No birth record has been found, nor any account of his parentage and education, although given the subject of The Saturniad it is possible that he studied at the University of Pennsylvania. About 1840 he married Harriet Eliza Williamson (1816-91), with whom he had seven children. In 1841 he was appointed solicitor for Philadelphia county. Census records of 1850-1870 show him living with his family in Philadelphia and continuing in legal practice. He died on 17 Sept. 1876 and was buried at Woodlands cemetery on 20 Sept. (ancestry.com 3 July 2025; Wallace) HJ
