Author: Aykroyd, Joseph

Biography:

AYKROYD, Joseph (1806-87: ancestry.co.uk)

Likely he was the Joseph Aykroyd who was born to Charles and Susan Aykroyd in Thornton, Bradford, Yorkshire, on 8 June 1806 and baptised in an Independent or Methodist chapel on 16 June. He married Agnes Bates (1810-77) in Bradford on 7 Feb. 1829; they had at least three children. The marriage certificate gives his occupation as weaver but the 1861 Census identifies him as a commercial traveller. In 1871 a grandson, Joseph, is recorded as living with them.  Aykroyd died at home at 128 Salt Street, Manningham,  Bradford, on 10 Oct. 1887, leaving effects of just over £70. Confusingly his surname is incorrectly given as Akroyd in Newsam and Goodridge. (ancestry.co.uk 6 Sept. 2022)
