AUTHER, John (fl 1777)
He was the son of Susannah Wright and her husband John Auther (1691-1762), poet and Baptist minister at Paradise Row Chapel in Waltham Abbey, Essex. They married on 20 Aug. 1731 but no birth or other records have been located for their son John Auther. A Thomas Auther was a subscriber to Auther’s book and may have been a brother: in the 1780s John and Thomas Auther operated as wine merchants and insurance brokers in Great St. Helen’s, London, but they became bankrupt in 1782.
