ATKIN, John (1780-1862: ancestry.co.uk)
He was baptised on 21 Aug. 1780 and was the son of William and Sarah Atkin (or Atkins) of North Muskham, Nottinghamshire. His mother’s former surname is not known. He married Catherine Hutchinson (1780-1865) in Newark Upon Trent on 23 Mar. 1802; they had one daughter, Louisa Ann. The title of his one book is an anagram of his name and the preface explains that he had worked as a joiner before becoming master of the free school in North Muskham. In preparing the book for publication he received help from a Benjamin Kemp of Farnsfield. John Atkin seems to have prospered: the 1861 Census describes him as “proprietor of houses and land.” He died in 1862 but the precise date is not known. (ancestry.co.uk 5 May 2022) SR
