Author: Armitage, J.

Biography:

ARMITAGE, J. (fl. 1818)

The preface is dated Dec. 1817 from 5 Dock Head, Bermondsey. J. Armitage also wrote a poem about the death of Princess Charlotte, The Sigh of Sympathy (1817), which at five pages is too short to be included here. He may have been the Joseph Armitage, son of Thomas and Mary Armitage, who was baptised at Bermondsey on 26 Sept. 1769. However, the poem listed in this bibliography makes it seem likely he was a non-conformist--or became one--and no certain information has been located.  (ancestry.co.uk 15 Jan. 2025) SR
