Biography:

APPERLEY, Charles Owen (1804-56: ancestry.co.uk)

The eldest son of Charles James Apperley, a writer who specialised in field sports and published as “Nimrod,” and his wife Elizabeth Wynne, he was born on 11 Feb. 1804 in Bilton, Warwickshire. The family had an unsettled life with frequent moves because of financial difficulties. In 1820 Elizabeth left her husband and took her six children to live in Hampton, Middlesex. Little is known of Apperley’s life but his poems indicate he was liberal in his politics and that he spent time in Europe. No record of a marriage has been found. He died in Apr. 1856, possibly in France. (ODNB for Charles James Apperley 15 June 2022; ancestry.co.uk 15 June 2022)
