Biography:

ANSON, Francis Harcourt (1804-31: ancestry.co.uk)

Born in London on 2 Apr. 1804, he was the second son of the thirteen children born to Sir George Anson, an army general with an illustrious career, and his wife Frances Hamilton. He was baptised at St. George’s, Hanover Square, on 4 May 1804. In June 1817 he joined the navy and was promoted to lieutenant in 1826. His naval career explains the Portsea location for the publication of his one book. He served in the West Indies but died at Falmouth, Cornwall, on 20 July 1831, four days after his return to England. He was buried in a cemetery in Falmouth on 23 July.
