ALLEN, Robert (d 1877?: ancestry.co.uk)
There is some considerable uncertainty about the identity of the author of The Parricide. His name appears as Robert Allen, A.M., on the title page. A Robert Allen whose dates make him a likely candidate was born in 1793, the son of Robert Allen of Lymington, Hampshire. He matriculated at New College, Oxford, on 7 Feb. 1812, and subsequently became rector at Barcombe, Sussex. However corroboration that this is the correct Robert Allen is wanting and Alumni Oxonienses records him as having a BCL (1819) but not a master’s degree. He married Mary Skinner in July 1827 but she had died by the time of the 1861 Census when Allen was living in Battersea, London. He died on 19 Sept. 1877 in Southampton.
