Biography:

ALLARDYCE, Ann (fl 1817)

No biographical information that can be linked to this author with any certainty has been located. However she may have been the Ann Dundas (Blair) Allardyce who was born in Eyemouth, Berwickshire, in about 1777 and married the Rev. Alexander Allardyce (c. 1776-1833). No marriage record has been found but they lived in Aberdeenshire. She had at least one son, James (1802-61) and three daughters. Census records from 1841 and 1851 show her living with three daughters in Cromarty in the Highlands. She died in 1857. The Goodwife at Home, Illustrating the Dialect of the North-West District of Aberdeenshire, not published until 1918, is attributed to her.
