ALBIN, Thomas (1804-83: ancestry.co.uk)
The eldest son of Thomas Albin, printer, and his wife Ann Locke, he was born in Spalding, Lincolnshire on 30 Apr. 1804 and baptised on 3 May. Nothing is known about his education but he became a printer like his father. On 28 June 1832 he married Jane Fridlington in Grimoldby, Lincs.; they had two daughters. The family moved to Colchester, Essex, where he purchased John Taylor’s bookselling business in early 1837. His father died in 1845 and Albin returned to Spalding, presumably to take over his father’s business. However the 1851 Census shows the family living at 156 Isis Street, North Hinksey, Oxford; Albin is identified as a printer employing 2 men and with 2 apprentices and 2 boys working for him. The 1861 Census shows him living alone in Spalding; by then he was no longer working and the Census identifies him as "formerly a bookseller and printer." In the 1830s and 40s he published various poetry annuals—including Affection’s Keepsake and The Pictorial Keepsake. Earlier works published by “Thomas Albin” and included in this database were issued by his father, Thomas Albin, Sr. (ancestry.co.uk 26 Apr. 2022, 28 Jan. 2025; Essex Standard 6 Jan. 1837; Ipswich Journal 17 Jan. 1846; Lincolnshire Chronicle 9 May 1845) SR
