AITKEN, John (fl 1816)
“The Plebean’s Alarm” named on the title page of his 1816 book has not been traced, and no reliable biographical information has been located. The political nature and style of his poem makes it likely he is not the John Aitken (1793-1833: ODNB) who was editor of Constable’s Miscellany. No first edition of The Swinish Multitude has been found; the title derives from Edmund Burke’s Reflections on the Revolution in France. SR
