He was born on 12 May 1780 at Acklam, Yorkshire, one of at least five sons of John Addison and his wife Charity Potts. The 1841 Census identifies him as a small farmer living at Raindale Heads, near Pickering. A death notice states that he was found dead on 8 Feb. 1845 and describes him as “a person of very eccentric habits” who lived in a small cottage he had built on the Pickering Moors. He was known locally as King Richard. Robert Addison (q.v.) and three more of his brothers subscribed to his one book. (ancestry.co.uk 21 Apr. 2022; York Herald 15 Feb. 1845) SR
